Blind Buddy Homepage
This site is an informational/resource site for the owners of blind
pets, specifically blind dogs.
When we sought information, support, products and like minded pet
owners to help deal with our blind dog's needs we found little in this area. Our goal here is
to help other pet owners who may have the same need for information
and options when it comes to their loved companion.
Blind dogs most likely will never
fully see again. But like their human counterparts they can have a
quality of life that precludes running into objects, falling down
stairs and feeling helpless with their new or existing condition.
Blind dogs, like blind people, will compensate for their disability
with their other senses. These sensory enhancements may not be
enough however.
After
tiring of seeing our beautiful little Yorkie (who was
completely blind in both eyes and deaf) walk into walls,
stand helplessly in the middle of a room and become
frustrated and depressed, we knew we had to do something.
We made a
Blind Dog
Collar
that really works. It is a simple collar attachment that
provides two extruding tubes with a vibrating inner piece that works
much the same way a blind person uses a cane. They work a lot
like curb
feelers on a car, giving the dog a protrusion out past his snout that he can
feel his way around.
When the dog encounters a wall, piece of furniture or other
obstruction he is aware of it before he crashes into it. After awhile the animal will adapt to this device quite
well. We have included the plans online here as a PDF for
online viewing, printing or download.
Please explore the site and return
often. We are constantly networking to bring information and
resources for our fellow animal lovers. Also please feel free to
share your stories about your pet with other site visitors. Your
story, your poem, your encouragement may just be the one that
inspires someone or saves a life. If you make one of these collars
we would love to have your input on its use and any enhancements you
may have made that may help others.
